Shoupp was last seen at 03:30 am on April 28, 1990, when she left an address in Boulder where she spent an evening with coworkers, en route to her residence in Littleton. She was supposed to stop at her estranged husband's home to pick up their two young children. The vehicle she was driving, a 2-door, dark green 1984 Volvo was found at her residence. Neighbors recall seeing the car parked in its usual space near her town home on Hinsdale Place, east of Littleton, at 07:10.
At the time of her disappearance, she was in the process of a divorce. Allegedly, there was an issue of domestic violence in the home. On April 29, Shoupp's husband was seen at work at a gas station with his children asleep in his care. A witness said there was a fire at the gas station's dumpster at that time, but Shoupp refused to call the fire dept. Foul play is suspected.
